Happy Monday y’all! It being the day before pay day for a lot of people, this week’s Mix and Match has an affordable theme running throughout and features my favourite ways to brighten up my day or treat myself when on a budget. Enjoy!
It’s a sure sign that ladies love their lipstick that when the recession hit, sales of the stuff continuously soared. I for one am living proof of this phenomenon – when those Topshop boots or suede jacket seem so very out of reach, I, without fail, hit the lipstick counters hard. Further proof, in the fact I now own about fifty lip products – sticks, pencils, lacquers, glosses, the works! I’m always looking to add to my collection, and who can blame me? Nothing beats the glamourising power of a strong red shade, the fun factor of a fuchsia pink stain, a sultry, sexy nude lip or the fun of collecting every shade in between.
Hello and welcome to this week’s Mix and Match favourites post! Apologies for my tardiness on this one – as I said on mentioned on my Twitter, I am not good at life! A busy week majorly kicked my butt and I’m actually embarrassed at how many couch naps I took this past weekend! I hope you are all well rested and enjoying the week so far anyway – nearly the weekend, you can do it!! Here’s this week’s top picks in beauty, fashion and homewares… Enjoy!
Another day, another lipstick! Up this week: Maybelline Color Drama Lipstick in “In With Coral”. I’m a little late to the party with this one, with the the release of this would be Nars dupe causing pandemonium in the blogosphere a few months back. At the time, buying another lipstick was last thing on the agenda but I finally succumbed the other day and purchased this summery shade of coral. A more unusual choice amongst my many reds and nudes (seriously, how many does one gal need?), I have fallen in love with this product for it’s colour, matte texture and staying power!
If you own any kind of social media account or have access in any way to the internet (which I can safely assume you do by the fact you are currently reading this), you’ll have been bombarded all day with articles on how this particular Monday is supposedly “the most depressing day of the year”. Well, hopefully you are all at home, doing something that makes you happy this Monday evening, and that this post might help to add a little fun to your evening too! Me, I’m heading out to see The Theory of Everything – which by all accounts may not be the best choice for a Monday evening cheer up, but I am excited all the same (popcorn!). Whatever you’re up to tonight, be happy and enjoy!
Not another post on how to achieve Kylie Jenner’s pout, I hear you cry! I think every make-up enthusiastic has their favourite nude lip sorted but I thought I’d weigh in with mine, having received the most gorgeous neutral shade Christmas (Santa knows his beauty trends, eh?). “Kind Sexy” by MAC is a pinky rose shade, perfect for achieving a full, natural looking lip, particularly when you have paler skin such as myself. I know thee Kylie shade is the perennially sold out “Velvet Teddy” but looking at it, I think its cooler, and very deep, beige tone is suited to those who are more sallow of skin, and I’ve found “Kinda Sexy” to be a much more flattering alternative. I’ve been wearing this shade at every available opportunity, along with my trusty nude lip liner, “Tiretaine Blush” from & Other Stories – this makes the look defined and more intense. That and a subtle bronze smokey eye and you are ready for a night on the tiles!
Another short outfit post from my trip to Amsterdam for you today. I’m hoping it’s one that might just inspire you to don your finest knitwear and bit o’ tartan and wander about town, hot chocolate in hand, soaking up the current festive atmosphere…
Hello and Merry Christmas to you all! This officially marks my last working Monday of 2014 and I for one am very much looking forward to some time off to spend eating chocolate and watching movies with my family, friends, and other half. And of course, if Santa decides to send a present or two my way, I wouldn’t mind at all! ‘Tis the season as they say, and here’s how I’m gearing up for this year’s festivities – my favorite party make-up and some thrifty Christmas decoration ideas for you to try!
With the season that’s in it, a time of endless social engagements, work lunches, parties etc., I thought I ‘d share my staple products that I always come back to for party make-up. And without doubt, I always opt for a feline flick of eyeliner, full black lashes and bi ol’ red pout. I’m all for a smokey eye, but when you going from desk to dance floor, slicking on some red lippie is definitely the way to go! Glam in no time – and if you can’t be just that at this time of the year, then when can you?! Start with a good base of foundation, concealer and a touch of powder and then comes the fun stuff. No need for fancy eye shadows or blending, you just need a neutral eye and a steady hand. I would advise popping your mascara on before your eyeliner too – this gives you a guide of where to angle your flick and how close to get to the lash line. My eye make-up picks are both from Rimmel – The Glam Eyes Liquid Eyeliner being a longstanding favourite and make-up bag necessity, and the Wonder’Full Mascara being a much newer purchase, but one which definitely stands up to review. The formulation of the eyeliner combined with the long soft nib creates ease of application and a long lasting look, whilst the mascara gives full, blacker than black lashes in just one coat. The latter contains the buzz ingredient of the moment, argan oil, which genuinely does leave lashes feeling soft with little to no clumps. It re-applies really well too, which as we all know, is of major concern when you need your make-up look to last throughout the day and well into the evening. Don’t forget to curl your lashes for extra va-va-voom too!
